Overnight boarding at Barks and Rec is Fun!! It's home style in every way possible. Many dogs like to be outside as much as possible, while others prefer to spend more time indoors. We make every effort to let them out when they want, and back in when they've had enough. During hot weather we bring the dogs inside approximately every 30 minutes to ensure they are drinking enough water and not becoming overheated.
Mornings are great for playing and getting to know each other in one of the cooler parts of the day. During the hot afternoon, we bring all the dogs in to take a break and have quiet nap time, which they need and are very happy to have.
After their afternoon quiet time, the dogs go back outside for a little exercise before dinner. After dinner, and rest period for adequate digestion, we take the dogs back outside for evening play. They are relaxed, they've been fed, and they are more comfortable and relaxed in their play groups.

We close at 7p and pick-up is NOT available after we close. On the day of pick-up for your dog boarded overnight, your dog is welcome to spend the day with us. However, a $10 per dog daycare fee will be charged for any dog picked up later than our AM hours of operation. (After 1 M-F, after 12 on Saturday, and after 10 on Sunday.)
Any overnight guest not picked up by 7p will be tucked in for the night and charged an additional overnight boarding fee plus $3.50 for food.
Please make every effort to drop your dog off as early as possible for an overnight stay so he has a chance to exercise and be ready to relax for the evening.
Vaccination and Other Requirements
Application: All required forms must be completed andapproved prior to your dog’s first visit. All vaccination records must be sent to us directly from the vet. We will not accept records that do not come directly from the vet. We will be happy to call your vet and request those records.
Evaluation: All dogs are required to be evaluated prior to any visit. Any dog that has not been evaluated and approved for socialization may not be permitted to stay. There is a one day evaluation REQUIRED prior to an overnight stay. Your dog must be dropped off early in the morning and picked up during our evening hours of operation. A daycare charge of $20 is assessed for the evaluation.
Vaccinations: All guests must be up to date on the following required vaccinations:
DHLPP (Distemper, Parvo), Rabies, Bordetella*
*Bordetella (required every 6 months) – Please note: There is NO such thing as a 6 month bordetella vaccine. We require the ANNUAL vaccine for bordetella (kennel cough) every six months. Please keep in mind that the "due date" on veterinary documentation is often the date after one year, not 6 months. For that reason it may not appear to be "due" on your "reminders" form from your vet. For safety information regarding the bordetella every six months, please contact your vet.
Other Requirements:
Must be on an approved flea and parasite (including heartworm) program per vet recommendations. Flea preventatives include Comfortis, Trifexis, Frontline Plus, Vectra or Advantix. Heartworm preventatives include Interceptor, Heartguard, Trifexis or Sentinel.
*Please note - Dogs who present with signs of fleas will be treated with Capstar and charged $50 per dog. We also reserve the right to refuse to take your dog if he/she presents with fleas. Please keep in mind that we do not knowingly accept dogs who are not on a flea preventative medication.
Must have had a negative fecal (for internal parasites) within the previous 12 months.
*Please note – if there is a medical reason why your dog may not be taking flea or heartworm preventative medication, we will require an explanation from your vet and certification from your vet that your dog is flea and/or heartworm free.
